MudMasons

The Earth Association for Animate Spacemaking

MudMasons is a not-for-profit organisation committed to the practice of animate spacemaking. We work across three pillars of practice: radical collaboration, conscious inquiry and design + make, each with their own initiatives.

What is Animate Spacemaking?

Rather than seeing materials and buildings as lifeless, inanimate resources, Animate Spacemaking recognises them as living entities. This shift enables us to co-create spaces that honour the consciousness of materials, natural systems, and the Earth, fostering harmony with all beings—both human and non-human. By renegotiating these relationships, we can begin to heal individuals and communities alike. This change in perspective holds the potential to inspire radical change and transform how we approach space-making and co-creation.

Pillars of Practice

01

Radical Collaboration

We advance shared knowledge through collaboration, education, and research. Our collective learning approach fosters diverse perspectives, leading to residencies, workshops, symposiums, exhibitions, and research that enrich and further define the practice of animate spacemaking.

Our core initiative for this pillar of practice is to establish an Animate Spacemaking Network.

02
Conscious Inquiry

We promote spacemaking practices that foster harmony with environmental, temporal, and cultural forces. Through immersive courses, participants learn techniques that make spacemaking a healing act of service, guiding them on a journey of remembrance, authenticity and homecoming.

Our core question driving this pillar of practice is: what kind of spacemaking is healing?

03 Design + Make

We promote environmental protection and animate design by creating educational spaces for experimental making and building.  Facilities focus on the co-creation of objects, spaces, buildings, and landscapes, fostering cutting-edge innovation in the synergy between ancient and modern technologies.

Our core initiative for this pillar of practice is to establish a Centre for Animate Spacemaking.
